Frogstar Faux Finishing is the creation of Annie Pavoni. She has been faux finishing since 2000 after graduating from Arizona State University with her Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts. She got into this particular field of art doing custom finishes for luxury jet liners in Tucson, AZ. She used various techniques to create marble, granite and exotic stone and wood finishes for the furniture on the planes of some very famous clients. Frogstar was born in 2003 when she decided to start her own company and provide these beautiful finishes to homeowners. She moved Frogstar to Phoenix, AZ, where she currently resides with her husband, their little boy and baby daughter, Australian Cattle Dog, 7 frogs and the best kind of chaos you could ask for! :)
We can do almost any finish you can dream up! Old World, Venetian plaster, metallics, faux wood, marble, stone & granite, oxidized metals, rustic finishes, and the list goes on! More pictures coming soon.
One of the most popular services we provide is our faux wood garage doors. Yes, that is paint! They cost just a fraction of what real wood doors cost, and they are more durable! We use top of the line paint and materials that will stand up to the elements. Real wood doors blister, fade, and peel in the hot, Arizona sun. They require maintenance, such as re-staining and re-sealing, sometimes, yearly. Our doors are gorgeous, maintenance free, and we can paint them to look like any wood finish you choose! Call us for more information. Our garage door painting season runs from November through May, but we book year round. We have people calling us all summer to reserve a spot in the fall!
From Old World finishes to modern finishes, we can do it all! Have an idea for something really different? Give us a holler. We love a challenge!

The majority of the work that Frogstar does is carried out by me, Annie, the owner of the company. In the situation of a large scale job or a quick deadline, I bring in my team of artists to help me rock the project out. They are all very talented faux painters and good friends of mine. Heck, my husband will even lend a hand if we need something sanded or some Venetian plaster burnished. Even the kids will help! You like the rustic look? Well, toddlers are excellent at distressing things. Both of ours have, quite effectively, "distressed" some of the furniture in our home ; ) All joking aside, though, we have an amazing crew, who goes above and beyond to turn your vision for your home into a reality.

People ask me all the time, where did I get the name, "Frogstar"? Well...It's story time, kids!
His name was, "Boo", and he was a Southern Leopard frog. He came to me when I was in college, working at a pet store. He was just a tadpole then. He was about to be somebody's meal because he had come in accidentally with a shipment of feeder goldfish. Apparently, a mother frog had laid her eggs at the goldfish farm, and the little guy got packed up with the fish and sent to the store to be sold as food to turtles and snakes with the rest of them.
I had never had a tadpole and didn't know if he would successfully turn into a frog, but I couldn't let him be food. He was just too cute! So, I took him home and made him a really great habitat, complete with a waterfall, plants and a cave to hide in. Well, much to my amazement, he did, indeed transform into a frog, a little khaki colored frog with these beautiful black spots!
Boo would sing a lot, and it sounded like a little chuckle, definitely not a "ribbit ribbit"; In fact, the sound really startled me the first time I heard it because it was the middle of the night! That chuckle helped me identify what type of frog he was, a Southern Leopard Frog from Arkansas. He liked to sing to certain songs, and he had a really funny, little personality. I named him, "Boo", after the character, Boo Radley, from the book, "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee. The movie is one of my all time favorites.
Boo was a very happy little soul and always made me smile. He still does to this day, even though he has been long gone to that big pond in Heaven. Don’t worry, he had a very happy and long life for a frog and left very peacefully and naturally, with a smile on his face (really, it was kind of odd). He seemed to always be smiling though. Check out our company logo, that’s Boo! Designed by me and also tattooed on my arm. I always called him my “Little Star”. He was my “Frogstar”. There you have it.
I have a very special place in my heart for that frog. He is the reason I have my children. Watching him transform from a tadpole to a frog was the most incredible thing I had ever seen. I had an epiphany right then. I figured that if I thought that was incredible, it would be beyond amazing to have a little child developing inside of me. I said, “OK, I am definitely having kids someday!” Fast forward to several years later, and I did grow some kiddos of my own, and it was totally amazing!!! Best thing I ever did. I, now, have two beautiful children. My husband and I never thought we could love anything so much! We are absolutely in awe of them, and they inspire us every single day. Thanks, Boo! Thank you for my children, my two “Little Stars”.
Thanks for reading!
Annie
